Paul Hazel, P.E.
Senior Project Manager
Paul Hazel has over 40 years of Electric Utility Experience specializing in substation design. He is an Oregon State University graduate and has lived in Corvallis since 1964. He worked in for CH2M HILL for 23 years prior to being a founding partner of TriAxis in 1996. He spent many months in the Pacific and Alaska working on diesel fired generator installations and substation upgrades. Since starting TriAxis, he has worked mainly on substation designs and interconnections for electric utilities, large wind farms and solar installations. His specialty is substation retrofits and rebuilds and making things fit in less space than would normally be allotted for new construction. Many of his repeat clients go back more than 30 years. In his spare time he likes to fly fish for Oregon's elusive Stealhead.
Mark Petrie, P.E.

Mr. Petrie has over thirty years of electrical utility design, engineering, and construction experience in the electric utility industry and renewable energy industry. His experience includes over twenty-five years at an electric utility and nearly ten years as a consultant serving electric utility clients and renewable energy clients. He is experienced in transmission line design, up to 500kV, and distribution line design of all voltages. He is currently serving as Senior Project Manager for transmission line design projects, substation design projects, medium-voltage collection system design projects and renewable energy development projects. He also serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of the Board of Directors for TriAxis Engineering, Inc., an electric utility engineering consulting firm headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon.
Mike Antonishen, P.E.
Mike Antonishen holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics from Kalamazoo College in Michigan, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Oregon State University) with a focus on energy systems and controls. His interest in energy systems was sparked while researching ocean wave energy and testing prototype devices in a wave tank at Aalborg University in Aalborg, Denmark. Mike has wide ranging experience and interests that include utility system long range planning and design, intelligent device integration, and power system modeling, analysis, protection, and grounding. Mike lives in Corvallis, OR and enjoys everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer, from food and drink to exploration and adventure. Some of his favorite activities include trail running with his wife, hiking, mountain biking, and skiing.
Senior Project Manager
Brad Kunda specializes in utility design and project management. He had worked in the utility industry for more than 30 years before joining TriAxis in 2010. His previous experience included work at Naknek Electric Association in Alaska, which was a rural cooperative in bush Alaska accessible only by boat or airplane. At NEA his responsibilities varied from purchasing, line design, easement procurement, staking, and meter reading to assisting the line crew. After moving from Alaska he held positions as operations and engineering director for the cooperative Consumers Power, Inc. in Philomath, Oregon. In his spare time he likes to fish.
Faith Junghans, P.E.
Technical Staff Manager
Faith has over 30 years of engineering consulting and project management experience for both the public and private sector. She worked for CH2M Hill for 25 years in many roles, including designing and delivering information and control systems. A professional controls system engineer, Faith is responsible for multi-disciplinary project management, and overall quality assurance and quality control of project delivery. She also oversees TriAxis’ Corvallis office operations. In her spare time Faith likes to do “boga”, which is yoga with her house bunny, Peter Rabbit.
Traci has worked in the electric utility industry (Pacific Power and Consumers Power) for more than 28 years in various customer and office support services. She also worked for Oregon State University in payroll and accounting for 1 year. When she is not in the office she enjoys gardening, outdoor activities, and spending time with her family.
Ashwin Patel, P.E.
Ashwin has over 20 years of Electric Utilities experience in design of power transmission and distribution lines. He is skilled and experienced in the use of PLS-CADD, a state-of-the-art CAE transmission line program, and other engineering software design tools. Before he moved to USA in 1983, he went to school to learn radio electronics repair and Morse telegraphy. In USA, he went to school to get the associate degree in electronics and bachelor in engineering. Ashwin lives in Corvallis, enjoys hiking in McDonald Dunn forest, biking in summer, and flashing his android phone at least once a week.
Paul Viganski, P.E.
Paul Vigansky started with TriAxis in 2007 as a transmission line designer following receipt of his BS, with honors, in electrical engineering from Oregon State University. Paul is facile with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and other software used in overhead and underground transmission line design. While at OSU, Paul and other team members built a prototype wind-powered water heater. Prior to obtaining his degree from OSU, Paul also worked at Frito Lay in Vancouver, WA, where it is rumored that he was single-handedly responsible for the manufacturer of over 1 billion Dorito chips. Paul is a graduate of the Naval Nuclear Power School (1990-92) and was stationed aboard the cruiser USS Arkansas (CGN-41) where his 6’-8” height was a challenge. Paul is generally accompanied in the office by Cirrus, his standard poodle and while occasonally seen exiting his workshop covered in wood shavings, he has also been known to "cut a rug" on the dance floor.
Ben Leland, P.E.
Ben has enjoyed designing, implementing, and maintaining a wide variety of control systems over the past six years of his electrical engineering career. Starting out with CVO Electrical Systems, and now with TriAxis Engineering, Ben works on a daily basis with SCADA and embedded control systems for electric distribution, water, wastewater, and industrial clients. His specialties include services such as HMI design, Programmable Logic Controller programming, and networking of various field equipment to make it all fit together in a meaningful way. Hailing from the Midwest, Ben tries to make the most of our beautiful Northwest environment, including building trails, riding and advocating for mountain biking in Oregon, and some even zanier bicycle sports, like Hardcourt Bike Polo.
Aaron Abts, P.E.
Aaron Abts has been with TriAxis since 2015 and has over a decade of experience in Electrical Engineering design work related to large, commercial scale wind farm and PV farm design. His involvement in the renewables industry includes working on over 8,000 MW's of wind/solar generation projects. This includes being very familiar with the different aspects of electrical collection system and substation design work, and being very proficient at developing system models and performing necessary system studies with multiple power system software platforms. Aaron holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (with a focus in Electrical Power) from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in 7 states. He has 3 wonderful children and an incredible wife that make the family life a joy. And in his free-time he enjoys spending time with good friends, camping & enjoying the outdoors, and spending WAY too much time involved with fantasy sports.
John So, P.E.
John So joined TriAxis in February 2015 and will be working in the Vancouver office. John is a graduate of Portland State University (BS & MS) and is a registered electrical engineer in 5 states. John has 17 years of electrical engineering experience and has worked at IEM, BPA, Elcon, Siemens, Intel and UL. He brings to TriAxis a depth of switchgear and substation experience. John lives in Vancouver with his wife.
Josh Custer, E.I.T.
Josh (General) Custer, one of the new young bucks of the group, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus from the University of Washington Bothell. He entered the power industry approximately 8 years ago as a drafter at Cowlitz County PUD where he worked his way into the Engineer Intern position. Shockingly, while at Cowlitz County PUD he had exposure to substation automation, distribution feeder ratings, SCADA systems, and relaying. He also spent time at Puget Sound Energy, Inc. where he quickly took charge of developing skills as a Project Manager and Engineer in new customer service design in Bellevue, WA. Josh has now brought his spark to TriAxis where his is expanding his experience in protection and controls. Custer’s last stand is at home in the Cowlitz County region where he likes to spend most of his energy with his family and friends, coaching football, and enjoying outdoor activities.
Rick Beyer is a Senior Electrical Engineering Technician in the Substation group specializing in outdoor physical substation design. He has 38 years of experience, including the last 17 years with TriAxis Engineering. Rick is a third generation Oregon native with three grown kids and four grandkids. His leisure time is spent woodworking, camping, home brewing and with family, especially playing with the grandkids.
Todd specializes in Substation design and has experience with Transmission and Distribution Line design. He has been in the electric utility business working on various types of projects for over 25 years. Todd utilizes AutoCAD for most of his design drafting work. He is also interested in 3D modeling and the implementation of modeling in his day to day work. When Todd is not busy working on projects he is maintaining and optimizing the TriAxis website.
He enjoys spending time with his Wife, 2 kids, and friends doing many outdoor activities. Favorites include camping, skiing, and sports leagues with the kids.
Darlene started with TriAxis in 1999 as a CAD Techician while finishing her last year of college. After working for TriAxis for 7 years, Darlene left to stay home with her two wonderful, energetic boys. She enjoyed having that opportunity, but was also excited to jump back in and return to the company after 7 years at home. Darlene primarily works on Substation projects, but has worked on all the various aspects of Substation, Transmission and Distribution work over the years. Outside of work Darlene enjoys spending time with her family and friends, getting out and enjoying nature and wildlife while hiking, kayaking, camping, and taking pictures. She also enjoys quilting and gardening, although maybe not as much or as successfully as she’d like.
Marianne has been with TriAxis since 2005, joining during her second year of college as an intern. She works primarily with Substation Design and supports the Transmission and Distribution groups when needed. When not working, Marianne enjoys the outdoors with her family by camping, shooting, hunting and exploring new places all over the Northwest and West Coast. Her passions include horses, architecture, real estate, and music.
Mr. Bernloehr is currently an Designer at TriAxis. He joined TriAxis in 2007 as an Engineering Technician and has acquired skills and experience to become proficient assisting Engineers with distribution and transmission line design tasks and substation design tasks. He is responsible for all technical issues and drafting oversight for the New Mexico office where he supports four Engineers in addition to filling in with special requests from other Engineers at TriAxis. Mr. Bernloehr is trained in SKM software model development and is an expert with AutoCAD software applications. Mr. Bernloehr belongs to a very large community of like-minded ‘gamers’ and participates regularly in both on-line and in-person gaming sessions. He also enjoys spending time with his dog, Tilly, and learning various intricacies of nutrition and cooking. He has taken on the nearly-impossible task of keeping the office mood light by regularly distributing humorous anecdotes.
